SANYO's first three products - the bicycle generator lamp, the plastic cabinet radio, and the whirlpool action washing machine - set the foundation for a half-century of phenomenal growth and product excellence. By pinpointing specific human needs and delivering quality products at easily accessible prices, the company quickly built a solid foundation for innovation and value.
From that dynamic start in the 1950s, SANYO grew by leaps and bounds expanding to all corners of the globe, as was envisioned when the company was named "SANYO", or ‘three oceans’.

SANYO has been operating in the Oceania Region since 1973. The advent of colour television helped SANYO establish a major presence, gradually building its product base to include audio equipment and VCRs. At one point in time half of the VCRs in Australian homes were made by SANYO.
Today, SANYO has grown to be a household name in both Australia and New Zealand. Over the past ten years SANYO has moved from being a strictly Consumer Electronics company to a diversified supplier of Environmental, Consumer, Digital and Commercial products.
